Mission Services: The Call to Serve

2007-11-17

Rev. Dr. Canon Alson B.H. Percival

The week of Mission Services hosted by the parish of St. Mary’s Cayon with Christ Church was orchestrated under the Theme “Call to Serve—How committed are we.” According to Parish Priest Rev. Elroy Zakers, The aims were to revive lapsed members and get more persons committed to serving Christ.

On the first night of the services, Brother Mickey Roberts gave the opening prayer and welcomed the congregation, which was followed by the worship team leading the congregation into a chorus session with songs such as “Jesus is the Answer,” “We shall have a grand time” and “What a Mighty God we Serve.” This was followed by two lessons from Genesis and Matthew, and a solo by Ms. Urv Swanston entitled “The King is coming.” The theme song for the week “We have a Gospel to proclaim” preceded the message by Rev. Dr. Canon Alson B.H. Percival, Parish Priest for St. George’s with St. John’s Nevis. Rev Percival expounded on the keywords derived from the theme: “Call,” “Service,” and “Commitment.” The week proceeded in addressing matters of “The Call of the Holy Spirit” on Tuesday, “How to respond to the Call” on Wednesday, and an informative Question and Answer session on Thursday, where issues of tithing, Anglicanism and other general issues were examined from a biblical perspective.

The mission services concluded on Friday 16th November and we pray that the week was truly a fruitful and inspirational blessing for all participants.
