Dear Friends:

Every time we gather in corporate worship, we affirm our faith in God through the recitation of the Creed [Nicene/Apostles]. We say ‘we believe’. To use the words of Eugene Sutton, the Episcopal Bishop of Maryland, when we do this, it is a ‘nevertheless’ moment. This means that regardless of our differences we believe in one God, the Same God; we have the same Father. Notwithstanding our individual uniqueness – born on different dates and at different times, in different places; to different earthly parents; hav- ing uniquely different biological, and sociological families, when we say ‘we believe’ we are professing what our God, that one God, has revealed concerning Himself.

Let us look at those things we profess to have made up our minds that our God has revealed to us:

There is an Almighty Being by whom the world was created and through whom it is governed and controlled - God.
He is our Father
Through the Holy Spirit and Mary the virgin, He begat Jesus Christ, His Son
This Son, Jesus Christ is our Saviour and Deliverer
He paid the price for our sins. He suffered under Pontius Pilot. He was crucified, died and was buried. But on the third day after being bur- ied He arose from the dead. He ascended into heaven is with the Father.
He will return and will judge us all, who will like him face resurrection.
He will separate us into everlasting/eternal life or punishment.

Do you believe this? If so, I pray that we will allow Him through the Holy Spirit, our guide and comforter [together with the Universal church and the communion of saints] to empower us to live according to our belief, never- theless who we have been and who we are physically.

May God, the Father, God the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit be with us all.
