The Lenten season may not be the longest season in the church year, but it is one of the most important seasons, if not the most important season. It is a time for spiritual preparation through repentance and growth in faith for Easter. It is the time of the church year when the passion and death of the Saviour come into focus. It begins with a special day of repentance, Ash Wednesday, and ends in the depth of sorrow and tragedy on Good Friday.
This year Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 10 and ends with the Easter Triduum [sundown on Maundy Thursday, March 24, to sundown on Easter Sunday, March 27]. It is the 40 weekday period of purification, prayer, fasting and penitence, in preparation for Easter. The six Sundays in Lent are not counted as part of Lent.
Here are some things we can do to renew our relation with God:- GIVE UP grumbling. Instead, “in everything give thanks” [1 Th. 5:18]. Constructive criticism is OK, but “moaning, groaning, and complaining” are not Christian disciplines. They do not make for healthy and godly re- lationships.
GIVE UP 10 to 15 minutes in bed. Instead use that time in prayer, Bible study and personal devotion. This will strengthen your relation with God. GIVE UP speaking unkindly. Instead, let your speech be generous and understanding. It costs so little to say something kind and uplifting. This will not only improve our vocabulary but our relationship with our brothers and sisters, the ones our Father created.
I pray God will give us the strength to redeem the time, be reconciled and, to grow in our relationship with Him.
