Fifth Sunday in Lent2007-03-25My dear Parishioners,
I greet you all on this the fifth Sunday in Lent. This Sunday has been traditionally called Passion Sunday. However in the Book of Common Prayer, the Passion of our Lord is rightly emphasized and celebrated on Palm Sunday. Drawing attention to this fifth Sunday in Lent as the traditional Passion Sunday is a reminder to all of us that we are now looking ahead Holy Week with its emphasis on Jesus death on Calvary’s cross to redeem us from sin and death.
At this time we should all be moving towards final preparations to be ready to rise triumphantly with our Lord on Easter day. Our final preparations will take us into many special activities beginning with our solemn procession on Palm Sunday and culminating with our reaffirmation of Baptismal vows on Holy Saturday Evening (Easter Eve). I urge everyone to be part of all the special Holy Week services so that we can thoroughly prepare for a deeper walk with our risen Lord on Easter Sunday.
Rev. Isaiah Philip
